She’z Moto Camp FAQs

Want to get into racing? How do you get started?

These are She'z Moto Camps, the one and only motorcycle skills camp of their kind! Organized, instructed, and attended by female riders. We are motorcycle professionals and understand how to build confidence in the female rider and bring her to the next level in her riding, no matter what kind of bike she rides; dirt, street, hare scrambles, trials, mx, roadrace, or supermoto. She'z Moto Camp is a whole weekend of training, riding, drills, lunches, dinner, s'mores, and networking with other female riders.

Here you'll find answers to the most commonly asked questions we hear. If you'd like to see some photos and videos of what the camp is all about, or to see what other people are saying about She'z Moto Camp, check out our Facebook page; "She'z Moto Camp". Please also feel free to reach out to us with any questions you may still have. We look forward to riding with you.

1. I've never ridden a motorcycle, can I do a camp? I want to be a Pro Racer, will I learn from this camp?

Our instructors can teach and challenge any level of rider. We focus on building confidence and a solid foundation for riding. The camps are led by Shelina Moreda, a Professional Roadracer who also races Supermoto, hare scrambles, flat track, and short track. The drills we do at camp are things she uses for her own training to bring her to the top levels of competition in the USA and internationally. Yet they are simple enough that a true beginner can pick up on them and really make use of the skills learned. Our instructors are top level racers and motorcycle professionals. We have had students from absolute beginners, who have never ridden a bike before, to expert racers who are about to go Pro.

2. Do you recommend the 2-day camp or a single day camp?

Our recommendation is to do the 2-day camp. You will learn and focus on the fundamentals on the first day, and put them together for some good riding on the second day. We tend to piece things together even more while we sleep, and come out ready to put it to use the next day. From our experience, people show the most improvement on that second day, that's why we have the camps formulated like we do.

We also have riders who have returned to 6 or more camps, and they still do both days every time because the drills we do are a challenge at every level, and they still learn more every time.

 3. Still interested in the single day camp?

We also understand the desire to get your foot in the water, so if a 1-day is where it's at for you right now, we can definitely show you the ropes during a Single Day Training Session.

We have some Single Day Training Sessions scheduled at various time during the year. Please check the Registration page for upcoming dates. The weekday sessions are a bit smaller and personal with only a 4 person minimum.

If you would like to attend for one-day during our regular weekend MotoCamp, please inquire about availability. If the weekend She'z Moto Camp is full we do not offer Single Day Training; but when it's not, we can generally fit someone in for a single day, especially if you have already attended a MotoCamp before.

 4. Am I too old? Is my daughter too young?

We don't believe in limits. Age, gender, or otherwise. So let us save you from having Shelina look at you crazy when you say "Am I too old for this?" We have girls from 5 to 65 years old at our camps and they have all had a blast and learned a lot. Age does not matter, the desire to ride and improve is what really matters.

We split the groups according to skill level, not age, so everyone gets the right amount of coaching for their level. It's pretty fun when the little girls are fast enough to be in the big girls group, (makes you work harder because nobody likes being passed by a girl, especially not a little one) and the little girls seem to really look up to the big girls. They inspire each other.

 5. Where is the camps location?

We are located in the picturesque countryside of Petaluma, Northern California, near the famed Wine Country. The location is private, secluded, and very much the heart of country. We do an annual MotoCamp in Indianapolis in October, and we can travel to other locations if we have enough girls interested in pre-registering for an "away" camp. We are currently exploring East Coast options, so let us know if you want to be on the notification list to be the first to know for that.

 6. What about lodging? Are there hotels nearby?

We do have a lodging option if you want to bunk with the girlz! It's like a big slumber party, only cooler because it surrounds motorcycle riding and everyone there shares that same interest. It's camping style, a big bunkhouse up in the trees with heated outdoor style redwood showers. There is a bonfire where we roast s'mores on Saturday nights, and everyone wakes up overlooking the track.

If you want to stay at a hotel, that is definitely an option, though we don't coordinate this. We can suggest options, just contact us.

If you live local, you don't need to choose a lodging option, you are still welcome to meet us for breakfast in the mornings.

 7. What kind of bike do I need? Do you provide the bikes? Can I bring my bike?

You will need a small size off road motorcycle, 230cc or less, 4-stroke. Something like a Yamaha TTR125, a KLX or DRZ125, XR / CRF100, or CRF150. If you don't have access to a bike, we have rental bikes too, those include fuel for the weekend and all the broken levers you can go through!

If your bike is bigger than a 230cc, talk to us. We will explain why we know it's best to train on the smaller bikes, and we might have cool options for you to test out your skills on your bigger bike as well.

 8. What about gear?

Bring all of your gear if you have it. If you don't have gear, we have gear that you can borrow (on a first come, first served basis). With that said,  you can show up to camp with nothing but socks and whatever you'll wear under your gear. There is currently no additional charge for this, thanks to our awesome sponsors at Cycle Gear, Arai, and AXO. This includes helmets, boots, chest guards, knee and elbow pads, gloves, jerseys and riding pants. We'll help you get fitted. This is a great option if you are looking for gear and trying to figure out your sizes or what you like or need. Plus, we frequently have coupons from our sponsors for all our MotoCampers so you can go get a discount on new gear after your MotoCamp!

 9. Do you do private group lessons? Can we do a She'z Moto Camp Birthday party?

If you have a group of people that you'd like to register for a MotoCamp on an unscheduled day, we can make a custom package for you depending on your needs.

A "Private Group MotoCamp" is just your group for either a Single Day Session or a 2-Day Session. We focus completely on you, what you want to learn, and your skill sets (we recommend at least 4 to a group). These are best suited and most easily accommodated during weekdays. We will need to know potential dates as well as approximate number of people, and whether you would need lodging and bikes. Please submit a request for a Private Group MotoCamp here.

 10. Can I do private 1:1 lessons with Shelina?

Our private lessons are very limited and are mainly for students who really need some personalized coaching, or for our sponsored racers.

A better option may be to either do a MotoCamp, which is a whole weekend of training, riding, lunches, dinner, s'mores, and networking with other female riders. Or to check out our semi-private Custom Group Days, if you are looking for a more intimate training session. You can submit a request for a private lesson here.

 11. Do you offer any discounts?

We are proud to offer discounts for things like families who are riding together, signing up with friends, and returning MotoCampers. Please feel free to ask about these current discount opportunities.

12. I've heard you do Scholarships?

Thanks to our awesome sponsors, we occasionally offer Scholarships to riders who may not be able to afford this kind of training. We believe motorcycling is a sport for everyone, and part of us doing MotoCamps is to make training and how to operate a motorcycle safely, more available and mainstream to everyone. We would love to offer these at every camp, and we are working on this all the time. You are welcome to inquire about upcoming scholarship opporunities.

13. Can I be a Scholarship provider?

Yes, you can too be awesome and offer Scholarship to help riders who might need help affording the camps. Be a part of our team in helping make these camps more available to everyone. Click here to learn more about how to get involved in being a scholarship provider.

14. Do you do anything like this for guys?!?

We get this question more often than we'd expect! We do a "Family Camp" where dads, boyfriends, uncles, and sons are welcome to sign up. They are a total hit and we usually sell out during the Family Camp, but She'z Moto Camp is for Women Only! (remember when you had that sign up over your tree fort and we weren't allowed in?? Yeah, payback!)

But really, we know our style of teaching and the environment surrounding She'z Moto Camp helps people (guys and girls) learn and build confidence unlike a lot of other avenues. Shelina actually does roadrace instruction for both men and women. So if you have guys interested in doing a MotoCamp, let us know. If we have enough interest in doing a "He'z Moto Camp", we might change things up a bit and do one where the guys can come and learn in the style we teach.

If you have a group of guys who want to do a "Private Group MotoCamp", that is definitely an option. We can put together a custom group quote for you.  Please submit a request for a Private Group MotoCamp here.

 15. Do you do asphalt, Roadrace or Supermoto training camps?

Not yet officially. Definitely let us know if this is something you are interested in. Shelina does instruct for Roadrace and Supermoto training camps, and we can recommend organizations for you to work with or days where Shelina is instructing at these type of training camps.

16. Do you have a Mailing List I can subscribe to?

We sure do! Here's the easiest way to get on our mailing list to receive special offers, the newest camp announcements, and news on special events (like our invite-only "Fun Days"). We try to limit the amount of email we send out, and we won't share your email address with anyone.
